John is the Founder and Managing Director of Eclipse Enterprise Consulting, a specialist payments consultancy practice providing strategic, interim management, consultancy and advisory support to companies engaged in card payments, banking, consumer lending and cross-border remittance. As a leading professional in the card and payments sectors, John brings a unique blend of technical expertise, industry knowledge, product innovation and international experience.A financial services practitioner with over 25 years of experience, he has worked with some of the world’s leading financial institutions, as well as established Fintechs challengers and start-ups, where he has gained an in-depth understanding of the complexities in delivering change initiatives across business, operational and regulated environments. His expertise across the payments value chain includes market entry, processor and partner evaluation, compliance and risk management, credit and debit issuing, acquiring, Scheme membership and regulatory license applications.

In addition to having served in a number of executive positions, John has also held non-executive positions with Visa and MasterCard in the UK, as well as advisory roles, including Optimus Cards, KodyPay, Simple Transfer and Jaja Finance, where he supported the successful bid for the Bank of Ireland and Post office credit card back-book. John is also a brand ambassador and judging panelist for a number of industry card and payment awards as part of his active promotion of the sector.

Held a number of executive roles: at Datacash (MasterCard) as an executive board member heading Strategy, Innovation, Partnerships and Marketing, earlier at Global Collect (Worldline) as a VP in charge of Partnerships and Alliances and prior to that at CyberSource (Visa) as a Head of EMEA, developing European markets and widening the payment product portfolio. Five years at Microsoft driving payments in the EMEA region as well as providing strategic direction to the Management in the USA.

Earlier in the career ten years at Visa International, across variety of roles from Relationship Management to Business Development in new digital payment technologies (smart cards and 3D Secure); working with multinational banks, processors, vendors and professional forums within Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa region (CEMEA).

Gian has a strong background in payments solutions and is passionate about innovation in the Global Fin Tech ecosystem. He has worked successfully with many national and global partners: Andersen Consulting, PIPC, Lloyds Bank, Barclays, HSBC, BSkyB, MasterCard and Visa Europe to launch new FinTech products for them. He has also played key leadership roles with Fin Tech start-ups with IBOS, 10X Screen Trade, and Mastercard Open Banking. He also acts as an adviser to venture capital funds looking at investing in FinTechs. He is also a trusted advisor to a number of consulting networks.

Dr Ernst Stahl is Head of Payments at NTT Data and deals with all aspects of payments. His focus is on tracking and strategically evaluating key payment trends. Previously, he was a director and partner at ibi research for many years. Ernst’s consulting and project work focuses on the future of payments between innovation (CDBC and CBMT, ISO 20022, RTP, payment-trends) and regulation (e.g. PSD & RTS, RPS), as well as strategic management. He is also the author of numerous publications, a moderator and speaker at numerous events and congresses, and a lecturer at numerous training academies in the field of payments.
